Finally, we are operational!!!
Finally we can announce that we are now operational, it all came together on Friday 20th June. It’s not been an easy journey by any stretch of the imagination. Two posts from late March 2014 & early April 2014 have been removed as the centre that was all confirmed on the edge of Abidjan; was taken from under our feet … more dramas this time in regards to land ownership!
Never imagined that our dream to rehabilitate street & trafficked children would take so many twists and turns … but now we have to thank to our wonderful Tony Qiu who went to Abengourou to find a suitable place & negotiate with his very basic French on the founder’s behalf. Tony had already booked his ticket from Atlanta USA to Accra, Ghana to make the journey to Abidjan to get the centre we thought we had started!
Instead, it all fell into place, Tony was in Accra wanting to leave for Cote d’Ivoire but we didn’t have anywhere for him to go. We were then contacted by family of the King of Abengourou telling us he still wanted to donate land. It was obvious, we needed somewhere to rent in Abengourou & someone to go there quickly!
The centre is in need of getting organised, the floors don’t have concrete, the holes in the walls need windows, there’s a need for doors & a gate. Not to mention some furniture! But the teams in both France & Cote d’Ivoire are thrilled that we’re finally operational … none of us thought that it would take this long to get going, but Rome wasn’t built in a day either.
Thierry, our new Outreach Worker arrived in the late afternoon on Friday 20th June from Ouagadougou after a hot 36hour journey by train and bus. We’re looking forward to working with him & we’ll post more about him soon!
