The Final Push to the Finish Line!

Unfortunately, the fit with Thierry, our initial Outreach Coordinator, wasn’t quite right for CREER’s vision, so we parted company at the beginning of September.  This meant that I stepped up to the front line to oversee the completion of all the building works on my own, and it was quite a learning experience!   During this challenging period, the plumbing was completed and the electricity supply was connected (lights and water at last!).  Our front wall was extended and a gate was installed, affording us better security.   Now we were almost habitable …

Friday 10 October was a wonderful day: Yves joined us as our new Outreach Coordinator and I was delighted to welcome him to Abengourou and to CREER!  He immediately rolled up his sleeves and readily got stuck in the next morning as we did our final big post-works cleaning of the entire centre – building and yard – to prepare it for Monday, when the coup de grace came from our friends at the Licorne.  On 13 October, four large trucks of used furniture arrived from Abidjan, cheerfully delivered and assembled by a wonderful team of French soldiers.  Bed frames, mattresses, wardrobes and large and small lockers were set up according to our plans.  Et voila!  Our building had become a home.
